They hired him for 6 nights a week during his college years at the University of Northern Iowa and 52 years later he loves being able to continue his hobby, not a job, with WSYX/FOX28.
Jym resigned on his 50th anniversary of doing weather but was so bored and depressed for the year after he realized he had to do it again. Almost 70, he still has the spirit of a 17-year-old, sharing weather folklore and knowledge with everyone.
Jym also served in the Army after college and was named the Most Outstanding Scout and #1 Marksman with an M-16 rifle, received the Spirit and Honor Medal, and then was assigned as flight operations with a National Guard helicopter unit. In 2009, he was admitted into the Associated Press Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
Jym taught 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade science and math at St Agatha School in Upper Arlington in the 1980s, then 9 summers at Ohio Wesleyan Campus with the OWjL program. Jym has a passion for theater and has spent 19 summers performing in the outdoor drama TECUMSEH, and he is currently a member of the comedy rock and roll theater Shadowbox Live, where he has been in 22 shows.
